High School Senior Round Up

High School Senior Round Up

High School Seniors are now required to receive the meningitis vaccine along with the Tdap vaccine before they are admitted to college. The Health Department is hosting a vaccine clinic on Thursday May 22nd for High School Seniors to get the necessary vaccines.

The Brazos County Community Emergency Operation Center (CEOC) announces the launch of its new Facebook page. The CEOC is responsible for reducing the effects of emergencies and or disasters before they occur, planning for and coordinating the operations and response to an emergency, managing resources and coordination of recovery efforts following an emergency as well as improving public information.

Walk Across Texas 2015

February 7th - April 4th: Walk Across Texas is an 8-week physical activity program for all ages and encourages people to get with 8 others as a team and log miles to get all the way across Texas (833 miles). Any physical activity counts not just walking so biking, running, gardening and any other activities that gets your blood pumping and heart rate up. Come join us on Saturday mornings February 14th & 28th and March 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th at 8 a.m. at Post Oak Mall for walking seminars and some fun physical activities.

Flu shots are now available at the Brazos County Health Department. Click here for times and cost.  We do not have the high dose flu vaccine that is recommended for adults age 65 and older.

Meningitis Vaccine

The meningitis vaccine is now available for adults 19 years of age and over for $110. Vaccines are offered during regular immunization clinic hours. Only cash or local check is accepted.

Pertussis Update for Healthcare Providers

As of August 27, 2013 Texas has reported 1,935 pertussis cases to the CDC. If cases continue to be diagnosed and reported at the current rate, Texas will report the highest number of pertussis cases it has had in over 50 ye ars. Biweekly updates on pertussis in Texas are available at http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/idcu/disease/pertussis/ . Early recognition of cases, effective treatment and prophylaxis, and appropriate vaccination are vital to limiting the spread of pertussis.
