Monday, July 3:  The health department will be closed starting at 2 pm, except for STI clinic, which will be offered from 1:00-2:30 pm.  Water samples will not be collected at anytime.

World AIDS Day is held on the 1st of December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. Applications are now being accepted by Brazos County for a lab assistant in a public health lab.  A bachelor’s of science degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Physical Science or an associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) and TNI standards. Open until filled. For example, a new vaccine which prevents the primary cause of epidemic meningitis in sub-Saharan Africa, meningococcal A, MenAfriVac, was introduced in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger last year. At the end of 2011. Cameroon, Chad and Nigeria are vaccinating more than 22 million individuals with the vaccine which has the potential to eliminate the leading cause of meningitis epidemics in Africa.
